A city sessions court has rejected regular bail for Anand resident additional collector Ketki Vyas, who was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in a disproportionate-assets case involving allegations of assets worth Rs 3.6 crore beyond her known sources of income.
The ACB has accused Vyas under the Prevention of Corruption Act. According to the prosecution’s case, she misused her position as a public servant and acquired movable and immovable properties through illegal means during her tenure as RAC at Anand from April 2012 to March 2023.
Vyas sought regular bail after the ACB filed its chargesheet. Her side argued that there was no possibility of her influencing the investigation. The prosecution opposed the plea during the hearing.
Additional sessions judge B B Jadav rejected the bail application after examining the chargesheet papers. The court said that, on a prima-facie assessment, Vyas appeared to have played a crucial role in the alleged offence.
“From the chargesheet papers, prima-facie it appears that the applicant-accused has played crucial role in commission of alleged offence… Hence, this court restrains itself from exercising its discretionary power to enlarge the applicant-accused on regular bail,” the judge said.
The case concerns alleged accumulation of movable and immovable properties beyond the public servant’s known sources of income. The court’s order does not establish guilt, and the allegations will be tested through the legal proceedings.
The bail decision comes after the filing of the chargesheet, marking the latest stage in the ACB’s case against Vyas. The supplied report did not provide details of the next scheduled hearing or any further court directions.
