Karnataka Rain Forecast: Bengaluru and South Brace for Storms

The India Meteorological Department has forecast rain across parts of Karnataka over the next three days, with thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds possible in southern interior, coastal and Malnad districts, while much of north interior Karnataka is likely to remain dry and warm.

The forecast covers Friday evening through Sunday, with light to moderate rain expected at isolated locations in several districts. Bengaluru, along with parts of southern Karnataka, could also see heavy rain at some places, according to the report published by Prajavani.

On Friday evening, the southern interior, coastal and Malnad regions are likely to experience scattered light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder, lightning and strong winds. The forecast also indicates the possibility of heavy rain in some areas, including Bengaluru city.

The coastal districts are expected to see different localised conditions over the weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, isolated areas of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada may receive light to moderate rain, while most parts of Uttara Kannada are likely to remain dry.

On Saturday, isolated light to moderate rain is forecast in Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Rural, Bengaluru Urban and Kolar districts. Chitradurga, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Vijayanagara, Ballari and Chikkaballapur are expected to experience mainly dry weather.

The forecast for Sunday places Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan among the districts where light to moderate rain may occur at one or two locations. Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Davanagere, Tumakuru, Ballari and Vijayanagara are expected to see sunny conditions.

The weather pattern is expected to remain largely dry in northern and north-eastern Karnataka for the next three days. Gadag, Haveri, Kalaburagi, Koppal, Raichur, Vijayapura, Yadgir, Bagalkot, Belagavi, Bidar and Dharwad districts are likely to see limited rain activity, with sunshine and warm conditions continuing in many areas.

The forecast also points to cooler mornings and fog in several parts of the state. The combination of localised rain, strong winds and thunderstorms could create short-duration disruptions for road users and affect visibility during morning travel, although the supplied report does not identify any specific road closures or civic advisories.

The district-level variation means that weather conditions are likely to differ sharply across Karnataka during the same period. While residents in Bengaluru, the Malnad and coastal belts may need to prepare for rain and thunderstorms, people in northern districts are expected to experience predominantly dry weather. The next forecast updates from the India Meteorological Department will determine whether the rainfall pattern changes after Sunday.
