Vijayapura district police have secured the top position in Karnataka’s monthly Police IT Dashboard assessment, recording 71.92 points and receiving a ‘Very Good’ grade in a ranking designed to measure operational performance and citizen-facing services across the state.
The assessment, conducted through the State Police Headquarters’ Police IT Dashboard, places Dharwad second with 70.12 points and Bagalkot third with 68.06 points. The monthly ranking covers 40 police units across Karnataka and evaluates them against 14 indicators.
The dashboard was introduced to bring greater transparency and accountability into police administration by tracking the work of officers and personnel through a standardised system. The initiative was introduced under the leadership of Home Minister Priyank Kharge.
According to the report, Vijayapura’s improvement follows a stronger emphasis on technology-driven policing, regular monitoring and operational efficiency under Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi. The district police department attributed the result to the collective efforts of its officers and personnel.
The assessment measures activities that affect both internal police administration and public service delivery. These include the timely disposal of cases, filing of charge sheets within the prescribed period, reduction in road accidents, digital recording of evidence through e-Sakshya, electronic service of summons and implementation of the e-Beat system.
The dashboard also tracks whether police units update records of habitual offenders and history-sheeters, trace missing persons, take preventive action, dispose of public petitions and detect stolen property. The return of recovered property to rightful owners, enforcement of special and local laws, and the timely completion of services such as passport and employment verification are also included.
The ranking therefore goes beyond a single measure of crime detection. It combines case management, evidence handling, preventive policing, record maintenance, property recovery and administrative services in one monthly performance framework. The system is intended to make these functions more visible and comparable across police units.
For citizens, the indicators include several routine interactions with the police system, including petitions, verification requests, summons, missing-person complaints and the recovery of stolen property. The inclusion of these services in a recurring assessment places administrative timeliness alongside conventional policing outcomes.
Vijayapura had previously been regarded as a laggard in police performance, according to the report. Its first-place position marks a turnaround in the district’s monthly assessment and has generated renewed confidence among its police personnel.
The available report does not provide the previous rankings, the individual scores for all 14 indicators or the methodology used to weight each parameter. It also does not state whether the monthly ranking will be accompanied by a public dashboard showing unit-level performance over time. The next assessments will indicate whether Vijayapura’s position is sustained and how the comparative performance of the 40 police units changes across the state.
