The Public Works Department (PWD) has announced an allocation of Rs 13.98 crore for the expansion of the Kanpur-Sagar National Highway to the Etawah Highway, a critical infrastructure project aimed at alleviating traffic congestion and improving regional connectivity.
With work set to commence soon, the project will be executed in multiple phases, focusing initially on the most congested sections of the road. Construction teams will carry out the work during off-peak hours to minimise disruption to daily traffic flow. Once completed, the widened road is expected to significantly ease traffic jams, especially at key intersections.
The expanded highway will feature essential upgrades, including enhanced drainage systems, street lighting, and safety barriers. Special provisions will be made for dedicated lanes for heavy vehicles to help ease the flow of commercial traffic. In addition, proper entry and exit points will be constructed at major junctions, and pedestrian-friendly facilities will be added in populated areas.
Environmental sustainability is also a key consideration, with tree plantation plans incorporated along the roadside. The project promises substantial benefits for local communities and businesses by improving access and reducing travel times. A key focus is reducing congestion at the Naubasta intersection, which will not only make travel smoother but also help save fuel and reduce vehicle maintenance costs for transporters. Emergency services will also experience quicker response times due to the improved road conditions. To ensure timely and high-quality execution, the PWD has put a robust monitoring mechanism in place. Regular inspections will be conducted to maintain construction standards, and the road will be subject to periodic maintenance once completed to ensure long-term durability. This highway expansion is a significant step towards enhancing the transportation network in the region, facilitating better connectivity between industrial areas and agricultural markets, and supporting economic growth.
