The Karnataka government has announced a 10-point development blueprint for Kalyana Karnataka, including a 30-acre IT park, 50,000 housing sites for site-less families, new road infrastructure and an artificial intelligence-based surveillance network in Kalaburagi and other urban centres.
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced the measures while unfurling the national flag at the Police Parade Ground in Kalaburagi during Kalyana Karnataka Utsav. The programme commemorates the region’s integration from princely rule into the democratic system.
The blueprint includes the proposed Kalyana Karnataka Economy Mission, which the government plans to establish as a Section 8 company to accelerate industrial growth, attract large-scale investments and create new economic opportunities in the region. A separate Bioeconomy Mission will focus on processing and value addition for agricultural products, including tur dal, Kamalapur red bananas, raisins and millets.
For Kalaburagi city, the government has announced a flyover on the Sedam Road ring road to improve traffic movement. A new peripheral ring road is also being planned, with its detailed project report currently under preparation, according to the announcement. The city is additionally set to receive a new lake and recreational park at an estimated cost of ₹30 crore, intended to serve as a major green and public leisure space.
The government has also announced the development of 50,000 residential sites in Kalaburagi district for families without sites. In the technology sector, a 30-acre IT park will be developed in Kalaburagi, while KRIYA, or Kalaburagi Research, Innovation and Youth Accelerator, will be established to support innovation, startups and young entrepreneurs.
An AI-based CCTV network will be installed in Kalaburagi city and at taluk headquarters for public safety, crime prevention and traffic management. The network will also be used to monitor civic services, including waste management, Shivakumar said. The announcement did not specify the project’s implementation schedule, procurement model or proposed data-governance framework.
The development package also includes a pilgrimage and heritage circuit connecting Kalaburagi Fort, the Sharanabasaveshwar Temple, Khwaja Bande Nawaz Dargah, Buddha Vihara, Malkhed, Sannati and Ganagapur. Heritage sites in Malkhed, Nagavi, Kalagi and Sannati are being redeveloped through grants from the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board. Ganagapur is to be developed in the first phase at a cost of ₹50 crore.
In sports, the Chandrashekar Patil Stadium will be comprehensively redeveloped over the next two years. The government plans to sign an agreement with the Karnataka State Cricket Association to develop cricket facilities serving the wider Kalyana Karnataka region. A sports city will also be established at Hadagil Haruti village in Kalaburagi taluk, with indoor and outdoor facilities for multiple sports.
The blueprint includes a two-year campaign to reduce anaemia through screening, prevention and treatment, with particular attention to pregnant women, adolescents and breastfeeding mothers. Separately, the government plans to plant and maintain 10 crore trees across Kalyana Karnataka over the next decade, with an annual target of one crore saplings. The announcement did not provide detailed budgets or tender timelines for the individual initiatives.
