Kalyan Heavy Vehicle Ban Begins for Durgadi Fort Navratri Mela

A Kalyan heavy vehicle ban will remain in force from October 11 to October 20 during the Navratri and Dussehra mela at Durgadi Fort in Kalyan West, with restrictions applying daily from 4 pm to midnight. The Thane city traffic department has issued the order to manage the expected festival crowds and protect public safety around the fort and its temple.

The restriction covers six-wheelers, heavy and multi-axle vehicles, and private and government buses. Entry will be stopped at several access points, including Kalyan Naka, Khoni Nisarg Dhaba, Nevli Naka, Shriram Chowk, Aadharwadi Chowk, Ranjnoli Naka and Savad Naka.

The traffic control notification was issued by Pankaj Shirsaat, deputy commissioner of police in the Thane city traffic department. The order covers the evening and late-night period when devotees are expected to visit the mela. Durgadi Fort hosts a prominent temple and attracts visitors during Navratri and the Dussehra festival, including devotees travelling from outside the region.

Traffic police have designated alternative routes for vehicles affected by the restriction. Heavy vehicles approaching from Kalyan Naka have been advised to use the Mumbra bypass, Kharegaon toll plaza and the Mumbai-Nashik Highway. Vehicles coming from Khoni Nisarg Dhaba can travel through Kalyan Phata, the Badlapur-Ambernath route and Katai-Badlapur Chowk.

Vehicles approaching from Nevli Naka will have to use the Badlapur-Ambernath Highway. Heavy vehicles coming from Shriram Chowk have been directed towards Ulhasnagar, Shahad and Ambernath. From Aadharwadi Chowk, vehicles travelling towards Bhiwandi will be diverted through Gandhari Bridge, Bapgaon and Sonale.

The arrangements also specify diversions from Ranjnoli Naka and Savad Naka. Vehicles from Ranjnoli Naka have been advised to use the route via the Kharegaon toll plaza, while vehicles approaching from Savad Naka can use the Sonale route.

The restriction does not apply to police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances and other essential-service vehicles. This exemption is intended to keep emergency and public-safety operations functioning during the festival period.

The traffic department has asked vehicle operators to use the prescribed alternative routes, follow traffic regulations and cooperate with the police administration. The order will remain operational each day through October 20, between 4 pm and midnight, covering the Navratri-to-Dussehra festival period at Durgadi Fort.
