Kalyan Dombivli water supply will remain shut for 12 hours on Tuesday, September 29, as the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation carries out maintenance and repair work at four water-treatment centres. The shutdown will affect Kalyan, Dombivli, Titwala, Manda and adjoining rural areas supplied by the civic network.
According to the municipal water-supply department, the interruption will run from 8 am to 8 pm. Residents have been asked to store enough water for one day because supply may resume at low pressure on the following day.
Executive engineer Mahesh Davare said electrical equipment, mechanical equipment and electrical carriers at the Barave, Mohili, Netivali and Titwala water-treatment centres will undergo maintenance and repairs. The work has been scheduled after the intensity of rainfall reduced, allowing the civic body to take up repairs that were difficult to carry out during the monsoon.
The Barave and Mohili treatment centres supply parts of Kalyan East and Kalyan West. The Titwala centre supplies Manda, Titwala and surrounding rural areas, while the Netivali centre supplies Dombivli East and Dombivli West.
The civic department said the maintenance is linked to operational stress during the recent rainy period. For about three months, heavy rainfall increased the load on electrical systems used to draw water from the Ulhas River into the treatment centres. Maintenance work during the rains was described as challenging, prompting the department to undertake the repairs as rainfall decreased.
The shutdown applies across the listed supply zones during the scheduled work period. The municipal water-supply department has advised residents to make arrangements in advance and account for the possibility of reduced pressure when distribution resumes on Wednesday.
