Kalupur Railway Station Chaos Leaves 200+ Ticketed Passengers Behind

More than 200 passengers with tickets for a Gorakhpur-bound train were reportedly stopped from boarding at Ahmedabad’s Kalupur railway station on Thursday after the train filled up, forcing them to make a last-minute journey to Sabarmati station to continue their trip.

According to a report by Gujarat Samachar, passengers had reached Kalupur early in the morning for the train scheduled to leave Ahmedabad at 9.10 am. Many had been waiting in a queue with their tickets before being moved by police personnel to a holding area.

The report said passengers were then taken in an organised line towards the train coaches. However, once they reached the coaches, they found that almost all the compartments were full. With no space even for standing passengers, more than 200 people were reportedly prevented from boarding despite holding tickets for the journey.

The disruption left passengers who had arrived at the station in advance without access to the service they had planned to take. The report did not specify whether the passengers’ tickets were reserved or unreserved, but described them as having confirmed tickets.

Passengers who could not board at Kalupur were reportedly instructed to travel to Sabarmati station and catch a Gorakhpur-bound train scheduled to depart at 9.55 am. The sudden change in boarding station meant that passengers already waiting at Kalupur had to arrange private vehicles to reach Sabarmati.

The change created additional difficulty for people who had planned their journey around the original boarding point. Passengers had reportedly been seated in line at Kalupur since early morning, only to be told at the last moment that they would need to board from another station.

The incident highlights the operational consequences of managing high-demand long-distance rail services across multiple boarding stations. When passengers are redirected after reaching a station, the time required to move between terminals becomes part of the journey burden, particularly for families, elderly travellers and those carrying luggage.

The supplied report attributed the boarding failure and the subsequent instructions to the circumstances at the station, but did not include a statement from railway authorities explaining how the passenger count was managed or what arrangements were made for those unable to board at Kalupur.

The immediate next step reported for the affected passengers was to reach Sabarmati station in time for the 9.55 am Gorakhpur-bound train.
