More than 170 applications were submitted at a taluk-level public grievance meeting in K.R. Nagar, Mysuru district, covering housing, residential sites, drinking water, roads, encroachment removal, pensions and welfare payments. District in-charge minister Yathindra Siddaramaiah said the government would prioritise resolving residents’ problems and make an earnest effort to provide quick relief.
The applications were received during the Prajaseva Andolana meeting held at the taluk administrative complex on Saturday. The meeting was inaugurated by Siddaramaiah, who said the administration was committed to addressing the concerns of ordinary people and supporting poorer sections of society.
The complaints included requests related to houses and sites, drinking water supply, roads, encroachment clearance, pensions, widow assistance and benefits for persons with disabilities. The minister assured applicants that the authorities would work towards resolving the issues at the earliest, according to the report by Prajavani.
K.R. Nagar MLA D. Ravishankar directed the tahsildar to convene a meeting of the relevant officials and ensure that the applications received from the public were addressed within a week. He also called for strict action against officials who neglected the complaints.
The meeting also brought attention to irrigation and farm-related infrastructure in the constituency. Ravishankar said nearly 70,000 acres were covered by irrigation, but farmers were facing a shortage of water because canals were not receiving an adequate supply. He requested the minister to take necessary action on the issue.
Electricity supply was another concern raised at the meeting. Ravishankar said power-related problems had increased in the area and urged officials to replace transformers serving irrigation pump sets immediately when they burned out. He asked the administration to act in a way that would prevent inconvenience to farmers.
The MLA also called on officials to visit rural areas, hear residents’ complaints directly and work towards resolving problems at the location. The direction places field-level response alongside the formal processing of applications submitted at the grievance meeting.
The reopening of the Srirama Cooperative Sugar Factory at Chunchanakatte was also raised. J.M. Kumar, honorary president of the Karnataka State Farmers’ Association (Raitha Parva), urged the authorities to restart the factory as soon as possible. He said the sugarcane transportation charge had been increased to ₹287 per tonne and demanded that it be reduced to ₹160.
Kumar also called for a meeting of the factory’s shareholders and appropriate steps to restart the cooperative unit. A memorandum seeking the reopening of the factory was submitted under the leadership of Ank anahalli Thimappa, vice-president of the State Sugarcane Growers’ Association.
In addition to Siddaramaiah and Ravishankar, the meeting was attended by acting Deputy Commissioner S. Yukesh Kumar, Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi, Additional Deputy Commissioner R. Aishwarya, Hunsur Sub-Divisional Officer G.D. Shekhar, K.R. Nagar Tahsildar G. Surendramurthy and Saligrama Tahsildar Rukiya Begum. The administration’s next stated milestone is to examine the submitted applications and provide relief within a week, as directed by the MLA.
