Jindal Stainless Supplies Premium Steel for Indian Railways’ Vande Metro Coaches

Jindal Stainless Ltd (JSL) has announced a significant contribution to the Indian Railways’ latest project, the Vande Metro train.

The company has supplied approximately 50 tonnes of high-end 21LN grade stainless steel for the construction of 12 train coaches, marking a critical advancement in the quality and durability of Indian railway infrastructure. The Indian Railways recently unveiled the first Vande Metro train, which was produced at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. The Vande Metro is designed to serve shorter distances compared to the Vande Bharat Express, aiming to connect 124 cities within a range of approximately 100 to 250 kilometres. This initiative is set to enhance both inter-city and intra-city travel, offering greater convenience and efficiency. Jindal Stainless, a leading player in the stainless-steel industry, underscored the superior qualities of the 21LN grade steel used in this project. Renowned for its excellent corrosion resistance, higher strength, and durability, this grade of stainless steel ensures the longevity and reliability of the train coaches. The company has also expressed its readiness to supply additional material should the Indian Railways decide to continue using this high-grade steel for future Vande Metro trainsets or underframes.

In an official statement, JSL elaborated, “We have supplied about 50 tonnes of 21LN grade stainless steel for 12 coaches of the project. We will provide more material if the Railways opts to continue with the high-end grade for the upcoming Vande Metro trainsets or underframes.” This commitment from JSL highlights the potential for a long-term partnership aimed at strengthening India’s railway infrastructure with top-quality materials.

The Vande Metro project is a strategic initiative by the Indian Railways to improve regional connectivity and promote efficient, short-distance travel. By employing high-quality materials like the 21LN stainless steel, the Railways are ensuring that these trains meet the highest standards of safety and performance. The unveiling of the first Vande Metro train signifies a milestone in Indian transportation, symbolising progress and innovation. The involvement of Jindal Stainless not only emphasises the importance of quality materials in infrastructure projects but also sets a benchmark for future developments.

As India continues to expand and modernise its transportation network, collaborations between public institutions and leading private companies like Jindal Stainless will be crucial. Such partnerships not only enhance the quality of infrastructure but also drive economic growth by creating jobs and boosting local industries. With the Vande Metro poised to become a cornerstone of regional transport, the Indian Railways is set to revolutionise travel across the country. The integration of high-grade stainless steel in these train coaches is a testament to the Railways’ commitment to safety, durability, and passenger comfort.
