Jharkhand’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has entered its final phase, with more than 11 lakh claims and objections filed before the application window closed and officials required to dispose of all cases by October 14. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 19.
According to data from the office of the chief electoral officer, 6,57,780 Form-6 applications seeking inclusion of names were received until Wednesday. Officials also recorded 4,49,503 Form-8 applications for corrections or modifications to existing entries, 12,704 Form-7 applications containing objections and 111 Form-6A applications.
The revision began with the enumeration and verification of voters, followed by publication of the draft electoral roll on August 5. Voters were then given nearly two months to seek inclusion, request deletion of entries or correct information in existing records.
The volume of Form-8 applications has emerged as a major part of the workload. Nearly 4.5 lakh requests involve changes to details already recorded in the electoral roll and will require scrutiny, document checks and verification before officials can dispose of them.
The claims and objections phase remained active until the final stretch. On Tuesday alone, 28,588 applications were submitted across the four categories. This included 15,433 Form-6 applications for inclusion and 12,721 Form-8 applications for corrections or modifications.
With the filing window closed, the chief electoral officer’s office has shifted its focus to digitising physical forms, collecting and mobilising supporting documents for new enrolments, conducting field verification, scrutinising applications and completing final disposal. These steps will determine which entries are added, retained, corrected or removed from the roll.
Officials now have until October 14 to complete disposal of all claims and objections. The final electoral roll is expected to be published five days later, on October 19, leaving a narrow period for processing the large volume of applications received across Jharkhand.
