Jewar Airport Gets Planned 130-Metre Road Link to Four Expressways

Jewar Airport connectivity is set for a major expansion under a plan to extend Greater Noida’s 130-metre-wide road into the Yamuna City area and link the airport with four expressways. The road is expected to connect the airport with National Highway 24, the Jewar Link Expressway, the Yamuna Expressway and the proposed Palwal-Khurja Expressway.

The plan was reported by Live Hindustan after an official of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) said the road would be extended from Greater Noida West towards Yamuna City. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is expected to construct the road, while YEIDA will provide the budget. The two sides have reached an oral understanding, with formal paperwork expected to begin soon.

The existing 130-metre-wide road runs from Sirsa in Greater Noida to Char Murti in Greater Noida West. From Char Murti, it continues towards National Highway 24 and reaches the Pratap Vihar area of Ghaziabad. The proposed extension through Yamuna City would take the road beyond the airport and towards the Palwal-Khurja Expressway, creating a direct road connection between Ghaziabad and Jewar Airport.

Within the YEIDA area, the proposed road would be around 29 kilometres long and begin near Alaunda village. Land acquisition for the project is expected to cover 812 acres. The road will also connect more than 20 sectors in the authority’s planned urban area, including sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 8B, 8C, 8D, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 16A, 18 and 31B.

The road is also expected to connect with the proposed 74.3-kilometre Jewar Link Expressway near YEIDA Sector 21. The link expressway is planned to connect the Ganga Expressway with the Yamuna Expressway. According to the report, land purchase for that project is up to 95 percent complete.

The proposed connections could provide an alternative route for traffic travelling between the airport, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and districts such as Agra, Mathura and Aligarh. Travellers from these areas would not need to travel through Pari Chowk to access the airport once the planned road network is completed.

Rajendra Bhati, general manager of projects at YEIDA, said NHAI had been selected to construct the 130-metre-wide road. He described it as the most important road in the city after the Yamuna Expressway and said it would connect the airport with several districts and urban areas. The next stated step is to complete the formal arrangements between YEIDA and NHAI before construction-related procedures begin.
