Jamshedpur police have intensified festive security across markets, public places and residential areas, while imposing phased restrictions on heavy commercial vehicles from November 6 to 9 to manage traffic and protect shoppers during the celebrations.
The restrictions will apply to all categories of heavy vehicles except buses. Movement will be prohibited from 3 pm on November 6 to 1 am on November 7, and again from 3 pm on November 7 to 1 am on November 8. A complete 24-hour prohibition will then remain in force from 6 am on November 8 to 6 am on November 9.
The traffic measures are part of wider arrangements announced by the district police to maintain law and order as residents visit markets for festive shopping. Police personnel have been deployed at busy intersections to monitor vehicle and pedestrian movement and to prevent untoward incidents.
East Singhbhum SSP Ehtesham Waqarib said action against anti-social elements had been intensified to prevent criminal activities during the festive season. Patrolling has been increased in market areas and other public places, while police teams are also monitoring jewellery shops, vehicle showrooms, banks and popular public hangouts.
Police Control Room vans will patrol main roads and residential colonies. Officers have also stepped up surprise inspections of hotels and lodges to check suspicious activities and strengthen security during the festive period.
The police cited recent enforcement activity as part of the security preparations. In October, 34 criminals were arrested in 14 cases and 18 firearms were seized, according to the report. Twelve people were also arrested in five cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act during the same period.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened at Tatanagar railway station. The Railway Protection Force has increased luggage checks and is inspecting coaches to prevent the illegal transportation of firecrackers. The measures are intended to address risks associated with higher passenger movement and festive travel.
Chakradharpur railway division spokesperson Aditya Kumar Choudhary said all necessary measures were being taken by the railways to ensure passenger safety at stations and on trains. The restrictions and inspections will remain operational through the specified festive period, with heavy-vehicle movement fully suspended for 24 hours from November 8 morning.
