A power outage at Jaipur’s state secretariat disrupted routine work for more than an hour on Thursday, with the supply interruption lasting from around 9.30am to 11am, officials told the Times of India. The secretariat is the state’s administrative headquarters and houses government departments and officials.
A senior energy department official attributed the outage to an internal issue within the secretariat. The official ruled out a fault in the discom’s supply network, according to the report. The disruption caused inconvenience to officials and affected normal operations during the morning working hours.
The incident was reported months after a separate power failure affected the Civil Lines area and the secretariat. That interruption in June was linked to a technical fault at the Heerapura grid substation, which supplies electricity to parts of Jaipur.
Power reliability in the city has also come under scrutiny after supply failures affected high-profile events. On June 11, a failure caused by the tripping of two transformers at the 400 kV Heerapura grid substation interrupted a press conference by Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at the BJP headquarters in Jaipur.
Following the June incident, the state government ordered an inquiry into the disruption. The action resulted in the suspension of two power department employees, while another official was issued a charge sheet, according to the report.
The latest outage has been identified by the energy department as an internal secretariat issue rather than a failure in the wider distribution network. The report did not specify the equipment or operational fault responsible, nor did it mention any further disruption after power was restored at about 11am.
