Sanitation workers in Jaipur’s Kishanpole zone went on strike on Friday over delays in receiving experience certificates required for Rajasthan’s sanitation workers’ recruitment, with the application deadline approaching on October 13.
The strike involves hopper helpers and drivers, according to the report. Workers say the certificates are necessary to complete their recruitment applications and have alleged that the delay is preventing them from meeting the deadline.
Nand Kishore Dandoriya, president of the Sanyukt Valmiki Evam Safayi Shramik Sangh, alleged that Kishanpole zone deputy commissioner Niharika Sharma was not cooperating with the workers. He said the strike would continue until the experience certificates were issued.
Sharma denied the allegation and said applications were being verified before certificates could be issued. According to her, officials must check salary records covering 12 months as well as deductions made towards Employees’ State Insurance and Provident Fund contributions.
The verification requirement has slowed the process, Sharma said. The dispute therefore centres on the timing of administrative checks against the workers’ need to submit documents before the recruitment deadline. The report does not specify how many workers have joined the strike or how many certificates remain pending.
Experience certificates are a key employment document in this case because they are required for the Rajasthan recruitment process. Any delay in issuing them could affect workers’ ability to submit applications before October 13, although the report does not establish whether the deadline will be extended or whether alternative documentation will be accepted.
The dispute also highlights the administrative dependence of municipal sanitation workers on employment records maintained or verified by local authorities. Salary data, statutory deductions and service-related documentation must be reconciled before certificates are issued, while workers face a fixed recruitment timetable.
For Jaipur’s urban services, the immediate issue is not only the disruption caused by the strike but also whether the certificate process can be completed in time for eligible workers to participate in the state recruitment exercise. The two sides have offered conflicting accounts of the delay: the union has described it as non-cooperation, while the deputy commissioner has attributed it to verification requirements.
The workers’ union has said the strike will continue until the certificates are issued. The next confirmed milestone is the October 13 application deadline for the Rajasthan sanitation workers’ recruitment.
