Jaipur Fair Price Shops Reopen as Collectorate Targets PDS Gaps

Jaipur fair price shops will have a fresh licensing process after the district collectorate reopened applications for vacant outlets in Jaipur city, Jaipur district and Jaipur Rural. The move follows the cancellation of earlier allotments in 2023 and the clearance of related court stays, according to officials cited by the Times of India.

Revised notifications cover 116 vacant shops in Jaipur city and district areas, while 119 shops have been listed for Jaipur Rural under Jaipur II. The administration said the exercise is intended to fill gaps in the public distribution system and improve transparency in the delivery of subsidised food grains and other essential commodities.

Applicants seeking allotments in Jaipur Rural can obtain forms from Room Number 46 at the District Supply Office, Jaipur II. A postal order of Rs 100 is required to collect the form, the report said.

People who applied during the 2023 cycle before the stay order will not have to restart the process. Officials said these applicants can re-verify or link their earlier applications by producing the original fee receipts issued at that time. The provision is intended to protect previous applicants while bringing their applications in line with the revised notification.

The new process also reiterates disclosure and compliance requirements for fair price shop licensees. Each shop must prominently display stock availability, the name of the licensee and the notified rates of PDS commodities on its exterior wall. Shops are also expected to follow the prescribed price norms and maintain information that beneficiaries can access easily.

Vacant fair price shops can create a direct service gap for ration-card holders, particularly in areas where beneficiaries depend on a nearby outlet for regular access to subsidised supplies. The collectorate’s decision links the licensing exercise to both availability and accountability: reopening outlets is intended to address access gaps, while mandatory displays are designed to make stock and pricing information visible at the point of distribution.

The process covers both Jaipur’s city and district areas and the separate Jaipur Rural listing under Jaipur II. Officials have not provided, in the supplied report, a detailed timeline for completing the allotments or reopening each vacant shop. The immediate next step is the submission and re-verification of applications under the revised notifications.
