Induction Cooktop Offer Brings E-Cooking to Rs 6,990

Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), under the Union Ministry of Power, has announced a Rs 6,990 offer for a 1,200W induction cooktop with compatible cookware as part of efforts to expand electric cooking under the National Efficient Cooking Programme (NECP).

The Diwali offer includes taxes and is intended to make induction-based cooking more accessible to households. EESL announced the offer while unveiling a report on accelerating e-cooking solutions and technologies.

EESL CEO Akhilesh Kumar Dixit said electric cooking could allow families to preserve traditional food practices while adopting methods that are cleaner, safer and more energy-efficient. The company has positioned the offer as part of a wider effort to accelerate the adoption of electric cooking across the country.

According to EESL, induction cooking transfers nearly 85 per cent of energy to cooking vessels. The company compared this with around 40 per cent energy transfer in conventional LPG cooking. EESL said the difference could reduce energy wastage and household expenses, although the actual savings would depend on electricity tariffs and LPG prices.

The programme also has an institutional implementation example in Andhra Pradesh. The state’s Women and Child Welfare Department is using induction-based cooking at all Anganwadi centres, according to EESL. Anganwadi centres provide a public-service setting in which cooking equipment is used regularly, making the state’s adoption relevant to the practical deployment of electric cooking beyond individual households.

The offer comes as EESL seeks to link household cooking choices with India’s broader clean-energy transition. The company said wider use of electric cooking would reduce dependence on fossil fuels and support the shift towards cleaner energy sources.

The cost and operating economics of induction cooking will vary according to household electricity consumption, local tariffs, LPG prices and the availability of suitable cookware. The announced package includes compatible cookware, addressing one of the equipment requirements for induction cooking.

EESL’s National Efficient Cooking Programme is focused on promoting efficient cooking solutions and technologies. The organisation has not stated in the supplied announcement how many households are expected to purchase the Diwali package or provided a national sales target for the offer. The programme’s next steps will depend on the availability of the package and its uptake among households and institutional users.
