Indore RE-2 Road Work Restarts After 130 Houses Removed

Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has resumed demolition in the Musakhedi area to clear land for construction of the RE-2 road, with 130 houses removed during the latest anti-encroachment action. The affected families have been shifted to allotted flats as part of rehabilitation arrangements, according to an official release cited by the Times of India.

The action was carried out by a joint team of the Revenue Department, Indore Municipal Corporation and the police. The operation was conducted under the Sub-Divisional Officer (Revenue), Juni Indore, and the Tehsildar, Juni Indore.

The structures removed in Musakhedi were identified as being in the way of RE-2 road construction. The municipal corporation said the joint team would continue removing structures that have hindered the road project.

The rehabilitation arrangement means that families affected by the demolition have been shifted after flats were allotted to them. The official release did not provide details of the number of flats, their location, the allotment criteria, the size of the units or whether any additional support has been provided to the relocated households.

The resumption brings together three parts of the implementation process: land clearance by the municipal and revenue authorities, police support during the operation, and relocation of affected families. Such coordinated action is required when road construction involves occupied structures and land records or encroachment issues across administrative jurisdictions.

The RE-2 road is therefore moving ahead through a process that combines infrastructure construction with the removal and rehabilitation of households located along the project area. The latest action does not establish the road’s total length, construction cost, completion schedule or the date on which traffic operations are expected to begin.

For residents affected by the drive, the immediate change is the shift from existing houses to the flats allotted under the rehabilitation arrangements. For the city administration, the next step is continued removal of structures that remain in the way of the road construction. The official release did not specify how many structures are still pending removal or announce a fresh completion deadline for the project.
