Indiramma Towers: Telangana Moves to Fast-Track 1 Lakh Homes

Telangana has set a target of constructing one lakh Indiramma houses in three phases across the CURE area, with the government directing officials to speed up land identification and beneficiary selection for the housing programme.

Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy issued the directions during a review meeting at the Secretariat on Friday. He asked district collectors to identify suitable land for the first phase on a war footing and begin advance preparations for the second and third phases while protecting government land.

The Indiramma Towers initiative is intended to provide housing to poor families close to their existing places of residence, according to the government’s plan. The stated objective is to ensure that beneficiaries can continue their livelihoods without being displaced far from their current locations.

Under the first phase, approximately 500 houses are proposed in each Assembly constituency. The minister directed officials to expedite land identification in two or three constituencies for the initial phase and to identify and secure suitable sites in the remaining constituencies for later construction.

Officials were also told to continuously monitor land availability, site suitability and other essential requirements for the project. The initiative is being implemented by treating each Assembly constituency as a single unit, according to details discussed at the meeting.

The review also covered the selection of beneficiaries for 2BHK housing units in Hyderabad, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts. The minister directed officials to complete the selection process by the end of the month.

To improve transparency, Ponguleti suggested that the housing corporation conduct an online draw using specialised software developed with advanced technology. The same process will be followed in all three districts, with the stated aim of ensuring that eligible beneficiaries receive their due.

Under the proposed process, details of all beneficiaries will be entered into the software before the draw is conducted online. The event will also be broadcast live so that people can observe the selection. Those unable to watch it in real time will be able to view the details later on YouTube and check whether their names appear on the selection list.

The project is being implemented in line with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s stated vision of providing homes to poor families without disrupting their livelihoods. The next immediate steps are land identification for the first phase, site preparation for subsequent phases and completion of the 2BHK beneficiary selection in the three districts.
