IndiGo Cleared for Digital Pre-Flight Briefing Adoption by DGCA

India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has approved IndiGo’s adoption of Electronic Flight Folder (EFF), enabling the airline to transition from traditional paper-based pre-flight briefings to digital formats.

“The use of EFF technology enables airlines to optimize flight paths dynamically using the latest data, thereby reducing fuel consumption and emissions,” DGCA stated. This advancement aligns with global efforts towards sustainability in aviation by leveraging technology to enhance operational efficiency and environmental stewardship.

This strategic move is set to revolutionize flight operations by reducing aircraft weight, fuel consumption, and operational costs. The Electronic Flight Folder (EFF) allows IndiGo to store crucial pre-flight briefing data, including flight plans, weather charts, and operational notices, digitally on pilots’ Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs). This shift eliminates the need for extensive paper documentation, streamlining pre-flight preparations and enhancing operational efficiency. IndiGo’s implementation of EFF underscores its commitment to technological innovation and sustainable practices in aviation. By integrating digital solutions into their operational framework, airlines can achieve cost savings, improve safety standards, and meet regulatory requirements more effectively.

DGCA highlighted that the adoption of EFF technology will not only streamline pre-flight processes but also lead to significant environmental benefits. By reducing the reliance on paper documents, airlines like IndiGo can minimize their carbon footprint associated with paper production and disposal. The lighter weight of EFBs compared to traditional paper documents contributes further to reduced fuel consumption and emissions during flights. The transition to digital pre-flight briefings marks a significant milestone in India’s aviation sector, paving the way for enhanced operational capabilities and reduced environmental impact.
