Indias First Integrated Logistics Hub for Heavy Fabrication Unveiled in Gujarat

Swan Defence and Heavy Industries (SDHI) has partnered with Wheel & Time Shipping Transport Logistics to launch the country’s first fully integrated logistics platform for large-scale fabrication projects.

Situated at SDHI’s expansive shipyard in Pipavav, Gujarat, this new end-to-end solution promises to transform how complex engineering and construction projects are managed in India. The F.A.S.T. (Fabrication, Assembly, Storage, and Transportation) logistics platform is designed to offer a seamless, all-in-one solution for the lifecycle of large fabrication and engineering projects. From steel cutting to final delivery, this integrated approach aims to eliminate the challenges posed by fragmented supply chains, ensuring greater precision, fewer delays, and more predictable outcomes.

SDHI, which operates India’s largest facility for shipbuilding and industrial-scale fabrication, brings its extensive infrastructure to the table, including a massive dry dock and cutting-edge robotic steel-cutting systems. Wheel & Time, known for its expertise in handling oversized cargo, will manage the transportation and logistics aspect, deploying a fleet equipped to move large, heavy loads across land and sea. This collaboration ensures that every phase of a heavy engineering project, whether it’s marine works, petrochemical installations, or offshore infrastructure, can be handled under one roof with minimal third-party involvement.

The significance of this partnership cannot be overstated. In industries where delays and inefficiencies can result in massive cost overruns, the F.A.S.T. model offers a streamlined alternative. The combined infrastructure allows for reduced dependency on multiple vendors, faster assembly times, and a significant decrease in the logistical complexities that often plague high-value, time-sensitive projects. By keeping every aspect of fabrication, assembly, and delivery in one controlled environment, SDHI and Wheel & Time aim to eliminate the bottlenecks that traditionally slow down the progress of large-scale projects.

The sectors expected to benefit from this initiative are vast and varied, including port machinery, offshore oil and gas construction, and marine works. The convenience of a single-site solution for large fabrication projects is expected to provide substantial cost savings and enhanced execution certainty. For industries that rely heavily on heavy cargo and oversized equipment, this model will be a game-changer, offering a new level of reliability in project delivery.

With a production capacity of 10,000 tonnes per month and state-of-the-art capabilities for handling oversized loads, SDHI’s facility in Pipavav is well-equipped to support this ambitious initiative. The inclusion of Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) and hydraulic trailers, coupled with ocean-going vessels, will further enhance the efficiency of transporting heavy cargo across global routes.

The partnership between SDHI and Wheel & Time represents a powerful convergence of manufacturing and logistics expertise, offering India a new blueprint for managing heavy engineering projects more effectively. As industries across the country look to scale up their operations, this innovative logistics hub offers a robust solution for tackling the complexities of modern industrial supply chains.
