Indian Railways has enforced new regulations impacting passengers holding waiting list tickets. The move aims to streamline train travel and ensure confirmed passengers have access to reserved accommodations.
Under the new guidelines, passengers with waiting list tickets are prohibited from boarding sleeper and air-conditioned coaches. This restriction applies regardless of whether the ticket was purchased online or at a counter. Only general coaches are designated for such passengers. Violations of this policy will result in penalties. Traveling in a reserved coach with a waiting list ticket will incur a fine of ₹440, along with the fare from the train’s origin to the next station. In sleeper coaches, the fine is ₹250, plus the applicable fare. Additionally, train ticketing officers have the authority to remove violators from the train or reassign them to general compartments.
This initiative addresses concerns over overcrowding in reserved sections, ensuring that passengers with confirmed bookings can travel without inconvenience. The enforcement of these rules is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing efforts to enhance passenger experience and maintain orderliness within the train services.
Travelers are advised to check the status of their tickets before embarking on their journey. If a waiting list ticket does not confirm, passengers should consider alternative travel arrangements to avoid penalties and ensure a smooth travel experience.
