India will showcase a decade of progress in its power and energy sector at the upcoming BRICS Energy Ministers’ Meeting in Brazil on May 19.
Union Minister for Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal will lead the Indian delegation at the event, which gathers energy leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.The session, themed “Empowering Global South Cooperation for Inclusive and Sustainable Global Governance,” will focus on energy security, accessibility, affordability, and sustainability. India is expected to spotlight a 90% increase in power generation capacity over the last ten years, as well as major advances in renewable energy, green hydrogen, and biofuels.
India’s participation comes amid a global push for equitable access to clean energy. The country will reaffirm its commitment to accelerating the transition toward sustainable energy solutions and highlight its innovations in low-carbon development. The meeting is part of India’s broader strategy to build international partnerships around clean energy and to contribute meaningfully to global climate goals.
The visit also signals India’s readiness to take a leading role in shaping energy governance across the Global South.
