Hyderabad is advancing its rural digital infrastructure agenda with the formation of the Telangana Rural Internet Infrastructure Corporation Limited (TRIICL), a dedicated entity established to accelerate broadband connectivity across villages under the Centre’s Amended BharatNet Programme.
The newly created corporation will function as a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) jointly supported by the Central and Telangana governments. Its primary responsibility will be to plan, implement, operate and maintain broadband infrastructure connecting mandal headquarters with gram panchayats across the state. The initiative represents an important step toward reducing the urban-rural digital divide and expanding access to high-speed internet in underserved regions. Improved connectivity is expected to support digital governance, education, healthcare services, financial inclusion and rural entrepreneurship.
Officials stated that the Union government has approved financial assistance of ₹2,600 crore over a ten-year period to support operations, maintenance, electricity costs and network management. The funding framework is designed to ensure long-term sustainability of rural broadband services. Technology and development experts note that reliable internet infrastructure has become a critical component of economic growth. Enhanced digital connectivity can improve access to government services, enable online learning opportunities and support the adoption of digital technologies in agriculture and small businesses.
TRIICL will oversee BharatNet implementation while T-Fiber will continue managing connectivity infrastructure up to district and mandal headquarters. Together, the two systems are expected to create a more comprehensive broadband network extending deeper into rural Telangana. The corporation’s governance structure includes representatives from Information Technology, Finance, Panchayat Raj and Energy departments, ensuring coordination across multiple sectors involved in digital infrastructure development. As Telangana continues to strengthen its digital ecosystem, the launch of TRIICL reflects a broader focus on inclusive connectivity and rural transformation. Successful implementation could significantly improve internet access for thousands of villages while supporting long-term economic and social development across the state.
