In a proactive move to leverage the upcoming monsoon season for rainwater harvesting, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has embarked on a training program targeting plumbers and masons. Recognizing the pivotal role of these frontline workers in implementing water conservation measures, the Water Board has initiated a three-day workshop aimed at equipping them with the necessary skills for constructing rainwater harvest pits.
The workshop, inaugurated by HMWS&SB Managing Director C. Sudarshan Reddy, emphasizes the significance of rainwater harvesting as a sustainable water management strategy. Reddy highlighted the theme park developed by the Board at Jubilee Hills, showcasing various rainwater harvesting methods, setting the stage for practical learning experiences for the participating workers. Scheduled on April 22, 24, and 25, the training workshop is a collaborative effort between HMWS&SB, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the Environment Protection Training & Research Institute (EPTRI). By bringing together key stakeholders, the initiative aims to disseminate knowledge and empower workers with the skills required to contribute effectively to rainwater harvesting initiatives.
Participants in the workshop will not only undergo theoretical training but will also have the opportunity to visit the rainwater harvest theme park for hands-on learning experiences. This practical exposure is expected to enhance their understanding of rainwater harvesting techniques and enable them to implement these measures proficiently in their respective roles. The initiative underscores Hyderabad’s commitment to sustainable water management and resilience-building in the face of climatic challenges. By investing in the training and upskilling of plumbing professionals and masons, the city is laying the foundation for widespread adoption of rainwater harvesting practices, thereby augmenting its water resources and promoting environmental sustainability.
