A technical fault in the overhead equipment near Moula Ali Railway Station disrupted train services in Hyderabad on Sunday, with the Sathavahana Express cleared after detention, the Palnadu Express moved using a diesel engine and the Kakatiya Express diverted through Malkajgiri.
The South Central Railway said a few trains were temporarily regulated or detained because of the issue. Restoration work on the overhead equipment was under way and was expected to be completed shortly, according to the railway zone.
The Sathavahana Express was among the trains affected by the fault and was subsequently cleared. The Palnadu Express, which had been detained at Moula Ali station, was cleared with the assistance of a diesel engine while repair work continued on the electrification system.
The disruption also changed the operating route of Train No. 17659, the Secunderabad–Bhadrachalam Road Kakatiya Express. The train was being operated via the Malkajgiri route and would skip its scheduled stoppage at Moula Ali station, the South Central Railway said.
Overhead equipment supplies power to electric trains through the contact system above the track. A fault in this infrastructure can require trains to be held, moved under alternative traction arrangements or diverted until the affected section is made safe and operational. The railway did not provide further details on the nature of the technical fault or the number of passengers affected in the information available.
Moula Ali is part of Hyderabad’s suburban and regional rail network, where train movements connect the city and surrounding districts with major railway terminals including Secunderabad. Changes to train routing or station stoppages can affect passengers travelling through the eastern and northern parts of the metropolitan area, particularly when services are diverted at short notice.
The South Central Railway said restoration works were being carried out on a war footing and were expected to be completed shortly. Until the affected overhead equipment is restored, passengers using services through Moula Ali and Malkajgiri will need to account for the altered route and the skipped stoppage announced for the Kakatiya Express.
