In a significant step towards smart mobility, the Cyberabad police, in collaboration with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) and technology partner Tanla, has launched Cyberabad Traffic Pulse (CTP), a real-time traffic alert system. The initiative, aimed at reducing congestion and streamlining city traffic, provides instant updates on road conditions, diversions, accidents, and major city events directly to commuters’ mobile devices. By leveraging platforms like WhatsApp, Google RCS, SMS, and Flash Messages, CTP ensures timely communication, empowering citizens to plan their routes efficiently and avoid gridlocks. Officials believe that such innovations will revolutionise urban traffic management, offering Hyderabad’s growing commuter base a seamless and informed travel experience.

The introduction of CTP underscores the urgent need for technology-driven interventions in urban mobility, especially in rapidly expanding metropolitan areas. With Hyderabad’s vehicular population crossing 1.2 crore and congestion levels increasing by 20% annually, real-time solutions have become imperative. Cyberabad Police Commissioner Avinash Mohanty and Joint Commissioner D Joel Davis highlighted how CTP will serve as a bridge between citizens and law enforcement, ensuring dynamic traffic regulation. Unlike static information provided through traditional media, CTP’s AI-powered system offers personalised alerts based on frequently travelled routes, allowing commuters to anticipate delays and adjust their schedules accordingly. Additionally, the system enables direct interaction with the Cyberabad Traffic Police via WhatsApp, fostering a two-way engagement that ensures faster problem resolution.

From a sustainability perspective, traffic congestion contributes significantly to urban pollution, fuel wastage, and increased carbon emissions. According to a study by the Centre for Science and Environment, Indian cities lose 1.47 lakh crore rupees annually due to traffic-related inefficiencies, including fuel consumption and productivity loss. By reducing idling time and improving route efficiency, CTP aligns with Hyderabad’s broader sustainability goals, helping curb vehicular emissions and promoting smarter urban transport solutions. Similar AI-driven models have been successfully implemented in global cities like Singapore and London, where real-time traffic updates have cut congestion by nearly 30%, proving that such initiatives can be game-changers in India’s evolving mobility landscape.

Beyond traffic management, CTP also addresses key civic concerns regarding public transport and emergency response efficiency. With Hyderabad’s metro and bus networks catering to more than 40 lakh commuters daily, real-time coordination between traffic control and transport operators is crucial to avoid unnecessary delays. The initiative also improves emergency response times by identifying congestion hotspots, allowing ambulances and law enforcement vehicles to navigate efficiently. While CTP marks a progressive shift in Hyderabad’s urban governance model, sustained success will depend on public adoption, data accuracy, and continuous technological upgrades.
