The Hazrat Nizamuddin-Prayagraj special train will operate during the Diwali and Chhath travel period, giving passengers an additional weekly rail option between Delhi and Prayagraj from October 20 to December 2, according to a report by Jagran – New Delhi.
The service has been planned to help passengers travelling home during the festive season, when demand for confirmed railway seats typically rises sharply. The train will include air-conditioned, sleeper and general-class coaches. Booking for the service has started, the report said.
The Prayagraj-to-Hazrat Nizamuddin service will run under train number 04183 from October 20 to December 1. It will operate every Tuesday, departing Prayagraj at 3:25 pm and reaching Hazrat Nizamuddin at 11:35 am the following day.
The return service, numbered 04184, will run from October 21 to December 2. It will depart Hazrat Nizamuddin every Wednesday at 2:45 pm and arrive in Prayagraj at 9:10 am the next morning. The schedule means the service will provide an overnight connection in both directions.
The train will operate through a route covering parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi-NCR. Its reported stops include Shankargarh, Dabhaura, Manikpur, Chitrakoot Dham, Atarra, Banda, Mahoba, Kulpahar, Harpalpur, Mau Ranipur, Veerangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, Gwalior, Dholpur, Mathura and Kosi Kalan.
The long list of intermediate stops makes the service relevant not only to passengers travelling between Delhi and Prayagraj, but also to travellers headed to towns along the Bundelkhand and Yamuna-Chambal corridors. Stations such as Banda, Mahoba, Jhansi, Gwalior and Mathura are connected through the special service, according to the published schedule.
However, the route will take longer for passengers travelling directly from Delhi to Prayagraj than a more direct service because of the number of stops and the alignment through Mathura, Gwalior and Banda. The railway’s decision prioritises wider regional coverage and additional access during the festival period rather than the shortest possible journey time.
For Delhi-NCR residents, the service adds capacity from Hazrat Nizamuddin, one of the capital’s major long-distance railway stations. For passengers travelling eastwards during the festive rush, an additional scheduled train can provide another option when regular services have limited availability. The mix of air-conditioned, sleeper and general coaches also creates different fare and accommodation choices, although the report does not provide the coach composition or seat capacity.
The special train is part of the railway’s wider seasonal response to increased passenger movement during Diwali and Chhath. Jagran – New Delhi also reported that other festival services are being planned or operated on routes connecting different parts of northern and eastern India. The available report does not specify whether the Hazrat Nizamuddin-Prayagraj service will be extended beyond December 2 or whether additional trips will be added.
Passengers will need to check the applicable booking availability, timings and boarding details before travelling, particularly because the service operates on different days in the two directions.
