Halwara International Airport is on the verge of becoming operational, with the Airports Authority of India (AAI) set to take over its management in the coming days.
An official communication from the AAI’s corporate headquarters to its local unit has signalled the imminent inauguration of the airport, directing preparations for the event, which is expected to be attended by a VIP or VVIP. The airport, formerly known as the Halwara Air Base, has undergone significant transformations to meet civil aviation standards. The Public Works Department (PWD), which oversaw the airport’s construction, is conducting final checks on essential systems, including fire safety, electrical infrastructure, and public health services, before handing over control to the AAI. This handover process is expected to be completed shortly, paving the way for the airport’s operationalization.
The completion of the airport marks a significant milestone in enhancing regional connectivity. Once operational, Halwara International Airport is expected to facilitate direct air links between Ludhiana and various domestic and international destinations, boosting economic activities and providing greater convenience for travellers in the region. The inauguration of Halwara International Airport is anticipated to be a momentous occasion, reflecting the culmination of years of planning and development. The event is expected to highlight the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity in the region. As preparations are underway, stakeholders are optimistic about the positive impact the airport will have on the local economy and the broader aviation landscape.
With the final touches being applied and the handover process nearing completion, Halwara International Airport is poised to become a key hub in Punjab’s transportation network, offering enhanced connectivity and fostering economic growth in the region.
