A Gurugram traffic jam stretching about 13 kilometres towards Delhi was reported on NH-48 on Wednesday after a damaged section of the Rao Tula Ram Flyover in Delhi disrupted Jaipur-to-Delhi traffic. The congestion has affected vehicles travelling from Gurugram towards the national capital, prompting the Gurugram Traffic Police to issue an advisory recommending seven alternative routes.
According to the advisory cited by Navbharat Times, the damaged road section is located on the Rao Tula Ram Flyover near Vasant Kunj. Traffic heading towards Vasant Vihar has been diverted towards Dhaula Kuan, creating heavy congestion on the Delhi-bound carriageway from the Gurugram border.
The traffic police have advised commuters to avoid the affected stretch where possible. Vehicles travelling from Gurugram towards Delhi can use NH-48 through the Narsinghpur cloverleaf and continue via the Dwarka Expressway and Urban Extension Road-II. Another suggested route is through the Narsinghpur cloverleaf, the Southern Peripheral Road, Ghata T-point, Gwal Pahari and the Mandi border.
The advisory also lists the MG Road route through IFFCO Chowk, MG Road, the Aya Nagar border and Bandhwari toll. Commuters may alternatively travel via Rajiv Chowk, Sohna and Ballabhgarh before proceeding towards Delhi. The routes through the Rajokri flyover and Urban Extension Road-II, and through Udyog Vihar and Urban Extension Road-II, have also been suggested.
The first alternative route, from NH-48 towards Mahipalpur, has been limited to vehicles carrying passengers to the airport, according to the advisory. The restriction is intended to preserve access for airport-bound traffic while the damaged section near the Rao Tula Ram Flyover affects regular movement towards Delhi.
The disruption highlights the operational dependence of the Gurugram-Delhi corridor on a small number of high-capacity links. When a flyover or road segment on NH-48 becomes unavailable, traffic is pushed towards several alternative corridors, including the Dwarka Expressway, Southern Peripheral Road, MG Road and Urban Extension Road-II. These diversions can also increase pressure on routes serving residential, commercial and airport-linked traffic.
The immediate cause identified in the advisory is the damaged road surface on the flyover. The Gurugram Traffic Police has asked motorists to follow the recommended routes and avoid the affected direction where possible. The advisory did not specify when repairs on the Rao Tula Ram Flyover would be completed or when normal traffic movement would resume.
