Gurugram is preparing to advance two road projects worth a combined ₹72 crore, with both proposals scheduled for consideration by the state-level works committee in Chandigarh. The planned upgrades cover the Iffco Chowk–Southern Peripheral Road corridor and a new link between Sectors 68 and 69 and Gurugram-Sohna Road. Together, they point to the city’s continuing struggle to match rapid development with basic transport infrastructure.
The larger proposal involves rebuilding the Iffco Chowk–SPR stretch at an estimated ₹47 crore. Beyond resurfacing, the scheme includes stormwater drains, footpaths, cycle tracks and improvements to the central verge. That mix is significant for a city where road capacity has often expanded faster than pedestrian infrastructure and drainage systems. For residents, the proposed Sector 68–69 connection could have a more immediate impact. The approximately 900-metre road is planned to provide another access route to Gurugram-Sohna Road for people living across Sectors 68, 69, 70, 70A, 75 and 76. The project is estimated to cost about ₹25 crore and would also improve links between established residential areas and major employment corridors. The timing matters for Gurugram’s property market. Several residential and commercial developments are already registered with the Haryana Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) across sectors in this part of the city, including Sector 68 and nearby areas.
Better road access can support economic activity and reduce travel friction, but infrastructure planning needs to keep pace with the population and traffic generated by new development. Urban planners say the bigger test will be whether these investments are delivered as complete mobility projects rather than isolated road-building exercises. Footpaths, safe crossings, drainage, cycling infrastructure and reliable junction design can determine whether a new corridor genuinely improves daily mobility. Two further congestion points are also moving towards construction. GMDA has received multiple bids for proposed flyovers at Dadi Sati Chowk in Sector 86 and Ambedkar Chowk near Sector 46. The latter is planned as a 900-metre, four-lane flyover connecting Ardee City towards Sohna Road, with an estimated cost of ₹32 crore.
For Gurugram, the next stage is therefore less about announcing projects and more about execution. Timely approvals, transparent contracting, effective drainage and safe access for pedestrians and cyclists will determine whether the investment delivers durable urban value.
