Gurugram: A proposed high-speed Namo Bharat Corridor linking Gurugram with Greater Noida has moved a step closer to evaluation after the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to the Haryana government.
If approved, the project could significantly reshape east-west travel across Delhi-NCR by integrating regional rapid transit and metro services on a single corridor while reducing dependence on private vehicles. The proposed 63-kilometre alignment would run through Gurugram, Faridabad and Greater Noida, creating one of the region’s largest multimodal transport links. Around 50 kilometres of the route would lie within Haryana, with the remaining stretch extending into Uttar Pradesh. Project estimates place the investment requirement at nearly ₹19,390 crore, reflecting the scale of infrastructure needed to improve connectivity across rapidly urbanising districts. According to planning documents, the Namo Bharat Corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Gurugram and Greater Noida to approximately 40 minutes. Such a reduction could ease pressure on heavily congested road corridors, particularly the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway and other arterial routes that experience daily traffic bottlenecks.
Urban mobility experts have consistently argued that faster regional public transport is essential as residential and commercial development continues to spread beyond Delhi’s traditional urban core. The proposal includes 22 stations, comprising seven regional rapid transit stations and 15 metro stations designed to serve local commuters. Key locations across Gurugram, Faridabad and Greater Noida have been identified to improve access to employment hubs, residential sectors and emerging business districts. Transport planners believe combining regional and urban rail services on a coordinated corridor could encourage seamless transfers and reduce overall journey times. IFFCO Chowk in Gurugram is expected to evolve into a major interchange, connecting passengers with multiple transit networks. The planned corridor would also intersect with the proposed Sarai Kale Khan-Bawal regional rapid transit route, allowing travellers to access destinations including Delhi, Faridabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Rewari and Dharuhera through an integrated network rather than disconnected transport systems.
Before construction can begin, the DPR will undergo technical examination by state agencies, including the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority, Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran and local municipal authorities. The review process will assess engineering feasibility, land requirements, environmental implications and financial viability before further approvals are considered. Urban planners note that projects of this scale have the potential to reshape regional growth patterns by encouraging transit-oriented development, reducing transport emissions and improving access to jobs without expanding road capacity alone. However, they also emphasise that long-term success will depend on timely execution, coordinated planning among multiple agencies and careful integration with existing public transport systems. If the proposal advances beyond the approval stage, the corridor could become a significant addition to Delhi-NCR’s evolving mobility network, supporting more connected, accessible and sustainable urban development while addressing growing commuter demand across one of India’s fastest-expanding metropolitan regions.
