Gurugram: Rehabilitation work on a key stretch of the KMP Expressway has crossed the halfway stage, signalling progress in improving one of the National Capital Region’s most important freight and mobility corridors. The ongoing road restoration between Pachgaon and Palwal is expected to strengthen safer regional connectivity, reduce travel disruptions for commercial traffic and commuters, and improve long-term transport efficiency across southern Haryana.
The repair programme covers nearly 53 kilometres of the expressway and focuses on restoring road sections that have deteriorated due to prolonged traffic movement and weather-related wear. Damaged carriageways, uneven surfaces and potholes had increasingly affected travel quality, creating safety concerns for motorists while slowing the movement of goods between industrial clusters connected through the corridor. Officials associated with the project indicated that work on the stretch between Pachgaon and Sohna has reached an advanced stage, while the remaining sections are being completed in phases. According to project authorities, approximately half of the overall rehabilitation has now been completed, with the remaining work targeted for completion later this year, subject to uninterrupted availability of construction materials. One of the challenges affecting the project has been the sharp rise in the cost of bitumen, the petroleum-based material widely used for road surfacing.
Supply constraints and higher input prices have influenced construction schedules across several infrastructure projects in the region, requiring agencies to recalibrate procurement timelines without compromising engineering standards. For Gurugram and neighbouring districts, the KMP Expressway plays a strategic role beyond passenger movement. The corridor supports industrial logistics by connecting manufacturing zones, warehousing hubs and freight routes while diverting heavy vehicles away from Delhi’s urban road network.
