Gujarat primary schools will observe a 21-day Diwali vacation from November 5 to 25, with classes scheduled to resume on November 26 for the second academic term, according to a circular issued by the Directorate of Primary Education.
The schedule applies to primary schools across the state. The circular has been sent to district education officers, district primary education officers and administrative officers, directing them to coordinate the vacation dates and maintain uniformity across primary and secondary schools.
The state-wide timetable gives schools, families and education authorities a common reopening date after the festival break. Schools will remain closed through November 25, and the second term will begin on November 26.
The Directorate has also asked district authorities to communicate the schedule to government and grant-in-aid teacher training institutes, pre-primary teacher training institutes, self-financed Primary Teachers’ Certificate colleges and schools under their jurisdiction.
The instructions cover institutions involved in preparing teachers as well as primary schools. This ensures that the vacation calendar is circulated across the broader school education and teacher-training system rather than being limited to government-run primary schools.
First-year students at teacher training institutes will begin their academic activities on November 19, while the primary school vacation continues. According to the circular, the arrangement will allow the institutes to complete the prescribed number of working days under National Council for Teacher Education norms.
The separate date for first-year teacher-training students means their academic calendar will resume before the scheduled reopening of primary schools. District education officers and district primary education officers have been assigned the responsibility of coordinating the schedule and informing the institutions concerned.
The circular does not announce any changes to the November 26 reopening date or provide additional instructions on examinations, transport or other school operations. The immediate administrative task is to ensure that government, grant-in-aid, self-financed and teacher-training institutions receive and follow the schedule issued by the Directorate of Primary Education.
