Greater Noida is on the cusp of a significant infrastructure transformation, with plans finalised for a world-class railway station to come up in Bodaki, modelled on the design sensibilities of the New Delhi Railway Station.
The project, a key component of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor (DMIC), promises to redefine urban mobility in the National Capital Region by integrating rail, metro, and bus transit systems under a single multimodal hub. The station will feature 13 platforms and is expected to handle close to 70 trains daily, including high-speed Vande Bharat Express services connecting Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal. Spread across 358 acres near Bodaki village, the new facility will be developed as part of a larger Multimodal Transport Hub (MMTH). According to officials familiar with the development, land acquisition has reached its final leg, after which master planning will commence, followed by the floating of construction tenders. The move to declare the project a “special railway project” in late 2024 has already accelerated regulatory clearances and ground-level preparations, with boundary walls under construction and preliminary site development underway.
Envisioned as a decongestion solution for overloaded stations like New Delhi and Anand Vihar, this strategic intervention is expected to balance the increasing inter-state traffic, particularly toward eastern India. The estimated budget of ₹1,625 crore will be funded by the DMIC Trust, while the Greater Noida Authority is providing the land free of cost. Oversight is being provided by Integrated Industrial Township Greater Noida Limited (IITGNL), a joint venture between the Centre and state-level bodies. The station’s design aims to merge sustainability with state-of-the-art urban planning. Two distinct zones have been conceptualised within the MMTH. Zone 1 will accommodate an inter-state bus terminal (ISBT), metro station, local bus services, and dedicated commercial space—essentially serving as the city’s mobility core. Zone 2 will house the railway station, multi-level car parks, hotels, foot-over-bridges, and leisure-cum-retail hubs. Supporting amenities like sewage and water treatment plants, coach maintenance yards, and energy-efficient lighting are also being planned to align with green urban development norms.
Urban mobility experts say this initiative is a long-awaited answer to Greater Noida’s transport challenges, offering seamless integration for last-mile connectivity, while creating employment and boosting commercial activity. The station’s multimodal layout is expected to serve as a model for future smart-city transit hubs across India. The development also aligns with the government’s broader agenda of fostering equitable, carbon-neutral, and sustainable cities. While timelines for construction and commissioning are yet to be announced, momentum on the ground suggests rapid progress. If completed as planned, Bodaki station could emerge not just as a critical transport node but as a key enabler of smart, inclusive urban growth in the region.
