Greater Noida to Get Mega Railway Terminal

Greater Noida is poised to witness the development of one of India’s most ambitious rail infrastructure projects.

A state-of-the-art terminal, proposed at Bodaki, will anchor a larger multimodal transport ecosystem aimed at reducing commuter dependence on Delhi’s overcrowded transit corridors. Planned over 46 hectares within a 176-hectare transport hub, the Greater Noida Terminal will feature 12 platforms and 63 yard lines to accommodate up to 100 trains daily, including premium services like the Vande Bharat Express. The project is designed not only to handle high passenger volumes but also to set a new benchmark for sustainable, transit-oriented development in India.

With its proximity to the upcoming Noida International Airport—located just under an hour away—the terminal is strategically positioned to serve as a vital regional node. It will cater to travellers from Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, and peripheral towns, relieving the commuter burden on New Delhi and Anand Vihar railway stations, both of which are nearing capacity. Architecturally, the terminal embraces a vertical layout with train operations on the ground level and commercial establishments planned on the upper floors. This mixed-use model reflects a shift in infrastructure planning, prioritising financial sustainability and civic integration. Retail outlets, office spaces, and passenger amenities will be interwoven into the station’s upper floors, turning it into a vibrant urban hub.

The terminal is part of a larger multimodal integration plan that includes metro connectivity, intercity bus depots, local bus bays, and essential public services. By combining various modes of transport into a single complex, the project aims to enable smoother last-mile connectivity while encouraging public over private transit—an essential shift in building low-emission, climate-resilient cities. Initially estimated at ₹1,850 crore, the project’s revised cost is expected to nearly double following a series of design upgrades. These revisions include expanded passenger handling capacity, energy-efficient infrastructure, and modern rail operations systems. Despite the higher capital outlay, planners argue that the long-term socioeconomic and environmental dividends far outweigh the increased expenditure.

Execution of the terminal is being managed by DMIC-IITGNL, a special purpose vehicle jointly promoted by the Centre’s NICDIT and the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority. While Indian Railways will oversee construction of the station itself, the SPV will handle the auxiliary infrastructure such as bus bays, utility networks, and commercial real estate development. If the state government grants final clearance this year, the terminal is expected to be operational within three years. Urban policy analysts consider the project a key intervention for balanced regional development, easing pressure on Delhi while catalysing growth in the extended NCR.

More than just a transport facility, the Greater Noida Terminal stands as a vision for the future—where infrastructure meets inclusivity, economic potential, and environmental stewardship. It is a tangible step towards building a more connected, equitable, and carbon-conscious urban India.
