A new transport corridor connecting Noida and Greater Noida through a bridge over the Hindon River is nearing completion, but unresolved land acquisition on the Greater Noida side is expected to delay full public access until the end of the year.
The project is being closely watched as a key mobility upgrade for the fast-expanding urban belt in western Uttar Pradesh, where traffic congestion and uneven infrastructure growth continue to strain commuters and local ecosystems. The six-lane Hindon bridge, stretching nearly 300 metres, has reached its final construction stage, according to officials associated with the project. However, a small but critical section of land required for the Greater Noida approach road remains outside government control, slowing the completion of the final connectivity segment. Authorities involved in the project indicated that the pending land parcel is essential for linking the bridge corridor to Knowledge Park and the LG Chowk area. The missing stretch may appear minor in scale, but urban mobility experts note that incomplete last-mile infrastructure often undermines the efficiency of large public investments.
The Hindon bridge corridor is designed to create an alternative route between Noida and Greater Noida, reducing dependence on the heavily used Noida-Greater Noida Expressway and easing pressure around Pari Chowk, one of the region’s busiest traffic intersections. Once operational, the corridor is expected to shorten travel distance for several commuters by nearly 10 kilometres. Officials overseeing the Noida-side works stated that the connecting road near sectors along the Aqua Line Metro corridor is progressing faster and may be completed within weeks. In contrast, the Greater Noida section could require several more months due to procedural hurdles linked to land transfer and construction sequencing. Urban planners say the Hindon bridge project reflects a broader challenge across rapidly urbanising NCR districts: transport infrastructure is expanding faster than integrated land planning. While new road links improve economic access and support real estate growth, delays in acquisition, fragmented governance and limited public transport integration continue to affect project timelines.
The corridor also highlights the growing importance of multimodal urban planning in peripheral NCR cities. The alignment near the Aqua Line Metro offers opportunities for better transit-oriented development if pedestrian access, public transport feeders and non-motorised mobility infrastructure are incorporated alongside road expansion. Environmental observers have additionally raised concerns about balancing infrastructure growth with river-sensitive development around the Hindon floodplain. Experts argue that future urban connectivity projects in the region will increasingly need climate-resilient planning, improved drainage systems and ecological safeguards as extreme weather events become more frequent across north Indian cities. For residents and businesses across Noida and Greater Noida, the new Hindon bridge is expected to improve travel efficiency and regional access. Yet the project’s delayed final stretch also underlines how urban infrastructure outcomes often depend as much on land governance and planning coordination as on engineering execution.
