Greater Noida is preparing a major road infrastructure intervention at Shahberi, where a proposed six-lane double-decker flyover could create a new link between Greater Noida West, Crossings Republik and NH-9. Estimated at around ₹900 crore, the project is aimed at easing a heavily congested corridor while responding to the rapid population growth of the western part of the city.
The proposed structure is expected to connect the 130-metre road in Greater Noida West with key routes towards Ghaziabad and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. For thousands of daily commuters, the project could reduce dependence on narrow and frequently congested stretches around Shahberi, where rising residential activity has placed increasing pressure on existing roads. The Greater Noida double decker flyover is being planned at a time when housing growth has significantly outpaced mobility infrastructure in several parts of the city. Greater Noida West has emerged as a major residential zone, but its expanding population has also brought longer peak-hour journeys, bottlenecks and growing pressure on links connecting the area with Noida, Ghaziabad and Delhi.
The proposed road capacity expansion could improve access to employment centres and regional transport networks. It may also influence future commercial and residential development along the corridor. However, urban planners caution that larger road structures alone cannot resolve congestion if population growth continues without coordinated public transport, pedestrian infrastructure and last-mile connectivity. The Greater Noida double decker flyover will therefore be judged not only by how quickly traffic moves, but by how effectively it integrates with the wider urban transport network. Better access to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway could support economic mobility, but the benefits will depend on safe junction design, reliable public transport connections and convenient access for people who do not travel by private vehicle.
The project could also improve connectivity towards the wider airport-led economic region, including routes linked to Jewar. That prospect may increase development pressure around already fast-growing areas, making land-use planning and infrastructure sequencing increasingly important. For residents, the immediate question is whether the proposed investment will translate into shorter, safer and more predictable journeys. As Greater Noida continues to expand, the next phase of planning will need to ensure that new infrastructure supports not only faster vehicle movement, but also more efficient, inclusive and resilient urban growth.
