GMDA to Build State-of-the-Art Office

GURGAON: Seven years after its establishment in 2017, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is poised to construct its own office building near Signature Towers, adjacent to the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway. This landmark development aims to provide a state-of-the-art facility for the metropolitan authority, currently operating out of rented premises. The new office building, strategically located at the Sector 16 boosting station, will span two acres. One acre will be dedicated to a 10-story building, while the remaining acre will be developed into a green area, enhancing the environmental aesthetics of the site. The project, estimated to cost approximately Rs 115 crore, is expected to be completed within two years following the tender allotment, which is anticipated to commence later this month.

A comprehensive detailed project report has been prepared, and the initiative has received approval from the Chief Minister. An official from GMDA elaborated, “The GMDA office will be constructed in Sector 16, with an estimated construction cost of Rs 115 crore. Tenders will be invited soon, and the project will be completed within the stipulated time period. The 10-story building will occupy about one acre of land.”

Currently, GMDA operates out of a seven-story rented building in Sector 44, incurring an annual rental expense of approximately Rs 2.77 crore. The existing office faces significant parking challenges, causing inconvenience to both employees and visitors. In stark contrast, the new building will feature a three-story basement parking facility, capable of accommodating over 100 cars, effectively addressing the parking woes. The new office will house various divisions of GMDA, including finance and accounts, administration, infrastructure, urban planning, smart city initiatives, geospatial services, urban environment, mobility, legal, and IT. This consolidation under one roof is expected to enhance operational efficiency and inter-departmental coordination.

In addition to the office space, the new facility will include a state-of-the-art conference hall, which is currently lacking in the existing office. Presently, meetings chaired by the Chief Minister, who also serves as the GMDA chairman, are held at the PWD Rest House due to the absence of adequate facilities. The new conference hall will provide a dedicated space for such high-level meetings. The new office will also feature a canteen and cafeteria for staff and visitors, significantly improving the work environment and overall productivity of GMDA employees. These amenities are designed to create a more conducive and comfortable workplace, aligning with modern office standards.

This development marks a significant milestone for GMDA, as it transitions from a rented facility to its own purpose-built office. The project underscores the authority’s commitment to enhancing its operational infrastructure and providing a better working environment for its employees. As GMDA prepares to invite tenders and commence construction, the new office building is poised to become a landmark in Gurgaon’s urban landscape, reflecting the city’s growth and progress.
