Ghaziabad Traffic Diversion Plan Targets Festive-Season Gridlock

Ghaziabad traffic police will divert heavy vehicles from Lal Kuan towards Bulandshahr and deploy more than 800 personnel at 24 key locations from November 5 to 12 to limit congestion during Diwali, Bhai Dooj and other festivals. The plan will focus on markets, major junctions and routes expected to face increased vehicle pressure.

Additional police forces will monitor sensitive points identified through an analysis of traffic-jam complaints received on Dial-112 during last year’s festive period, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Varun Kumar Singh said. Police will be stationed at these locations to respond quickly if traffic begins to build up.

Under the diversion plan, heavy vehicles entering the city will be redirected from Lal Kuan towards Bulandshahr. The traffic police said this would reduce the movement of heavy vehicles on internal city roads and help keep markets and major intersections moving during the festival period. At present, no further route diversions are planned for other roads, although the arrangement may be modified at the spot if traffic pressure increases.

The deployment will be managed in two shifts under the supervision of 11 traffic inspectors. The force will include 128 sub-inspectors, 306 head constables, 356 constables and 23 women head constables and constables. Their responsibilities will include traffic regulation, monitoring vehicle movement and taking immediate action when congestion develops.

The 24 locations identified for enhanced monitoring include Vijay Nagar T-Point, ABES Cut, the Dasna approach to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, Lal Kuan, Anand Hospital, Opulent Mall, Arya Farm House and Sajan Mor. Other points include Mukherjee Park, Chaudhary Mor, Turab Nagar, Ghanta Ghar, Hapur Tiraha, the new bus stand, the old bus stand, Mohan Nagar, Sector 62 and Chhijarsi.

The plan also includes coordination with the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation to prevent buses from adding to congestion at busy points. The traffic police has discussed bus operations and parking arrangements with the regional manager of the Kaushambi Roadways Depot.

Roadways buses will be positioned in advance at selected hotspots, including Sector 62, Chhijarsi, Lal Kuan and the area in front of the Adhyatmik Nagar police outpost on National Highway 9. Officials said the arrangement would ensure that buses are available when required while helping maintain orderly traffic movement around these locations.

The festive traffic plan reflects a response built around previously recorded congestion complaints rather than a citywide diversion of all traffic. Police said their immediate objective was to keep vehicle movement normal on major routes and reduce inconvenience for shoppers and other road users. The arrangements will remain in force through November 12, with on-ground changes possible if conditions require them.
