Ghaziabad Hotel Fire Contained After Five People Rescued

A fire at the Banana Tree Hotel in Ghaziabad’s Site-4 area on Link Road was brought under control on Tuesday after fire personnel rescued five people from an upper floor, according to Chief Fire Officer Saurabh Kumar. No deaths or injuries had been reported in the information available by the time of publication.

Kumar said the fire department received information about the incident in Sahibabad at around 1.30 pm on 27 October. Nine fire tenders and a hydraulic fire-fighting machine were sent to the site after the alert. Firefighters found that the flames had spread upwards from the fifth floor, where a hotel was operating.

The officer said an initial report indicated that at least 18 people could be trapped in 12 rooms. The building was evacuated, and five people who were on the upper floor were safely brought out, according to the fire department’s account cited by Live Hindustan – NCR.

Four fire engines worked for about an hour to bring the blaze under control. The response also involved a hydraulic machine, an important part of operations when flames spread to upper levels of a multi-storey building and access from the ground becomes difficult.

The exact cause of the fire had not been established. The report said officials were considering a short circuit as a possible cause, but that remains an initial possibility rather than a confirmed finding. The extent of damage to the hotel and the building was also not immediately available.

The incident places attention on the practical challenges of responding to fires in buildings that combine hotel rooms and other occupied spaces. Evacuation speed, access to upper floors, functioning fire-safety systems and the availability of equipment capable of reaching elevated sections can determine how quickly occupants are moved to safety.

The fire department’s account indicates that the immediate operation focused on evacuating the building, reaching people above the fifth floor and containing the flames. Further details on the fire’s origin, the building’s safety arrangements and any subsequent inspection or investigation were not available in the supplied report.

Authorities are expected to establish the cause of the fire and assess the damage. Any further official findings will determine whether additional action is required concerning the hotel’s electrical systems, fire-safety compliance or building operations.
