The Gautam Buddh Nagar administration has declared a special casual leave on October 23 for employees who are registered voters in the Meerut Graduate and Meerut Teacher legislative council constituencies, allowing them to participate in the scheduled election.
The order was issued by Gautam Buddh Nagar District Magistrate and District Election Officer Medha Roopam. It applies to bonafide voters registered in the relevant electoral constituencies and is intended to ensure that eligible employees can vote without having to report for regular duties on polling day.
According to the administrative order, employees who are university graduates and registered voters in the graduate or teacher constituencies will be entitled to the special casual leave. The administration has asked eligible voters to use the facility and participate in the electoral process.
The decision follows instructions issued by the Uttar Pradesh government’s General Administration Department on October 13. The Navbharat Times report said the leave was approved after taking into account directions from the Election Commission of India and the Union government’s Department of Personnel and Training, along with approval from the Governor.
Polling for 11 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council seats representing teacher and graduate constituencies is scheduled for October 23. The Meerut Graduate and Meerut Teacher constituencies are among the seats covered by the election. The administration’s leave order is focused on voters in Gautam Buddh Nagar who are registered in these constituencies, rather than on all employees or residents of the district.
The arrangement is an administrative measure to reduce the work-related barrier for a defined group of voters. Unlike a general public holiday, the special casual leave is linked to eligibility as a registered voter in the relevant electoral constituency. Employees who do not meet that condition are not covered by the order as described in the report.
Political parties have stepped up preparations for the elections. BJP leader and Uttar Pradesh minister Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary recently claimed that his party would win all 11 teacher and graduate constituency seats. He said the party was campaigning on issues concerning education and young people. The claim is a political statement and does not determine the outcome of the election.
The district administration and election authorities are also emphasising voter participation. Providing leave to eligible employees is part of that effort, enabling registered voters to attend polling without the immediate conflict between workplace responsibilities and voting.
The polling scheduled for October 23 remains the next key milestone. Eligible voters covered by the order will be able to use the special casual leave to cast their ballots in the election.
