Mumbai Police have deployed more than 17,000 personnel across the city ahead of Ganeshotsav 2026, with additional security, crowd-control and traffic arrangements planned for major festival locations and Ganesh idol immersion days.
A senior Mumbai Police official said the deployment includes at least seven Additional Commissioners of Police, 37 Deputy Commissioners of Police and 52 Assistant Commissioners of Police. The arrangements also include around 2,650 police officers and 14,150 police personnel during the festival period.
Additional security has been planned at important locations across Mumbai, including the deployment of State Reserve Police Force platoons, Quick Response Teams, Riot Control Teams and Home Guards. The police have also been conducting flag marches along sensitive routes in parts of the city as part of preparations for the festival.
The arrangements will be intensified on the days when Ganesh idols are immersed. Large crowds are expected to gather across the city at immersion sites, and additional personnel will be deployed to manage security and crowd movement during the process, the official said.
Mumbai Police have also planned traffic arrangements in parts of the city during the festival and on key immersion days. The measures are intended to support the movement of devotees and processions while maintaining public peace along sensitive routes and around crowded locations.
Ganeshotsav is one of Maharashtra’s largest public festivals, with Mumbai attracting thousands of devotees to pandals and immersion sites. The scale of the police deployment reflects the operational challenge of managing simultaneous gatherings, processions and movement across multiple parts of the city.
The police have appealed to citizens to remain calm, exercise restraint and cooperate with personnel, particularly in crowded areas. Residents and visitors have been asked to follow security instructions and immediately report any unattended or suspicious object to the authorities.
For immediate police assistance, citizens can contact the Mumbai Police helpline on 100 or 112. Police officials have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with the authorities so that Ganeshotsav 2026 can be conducted safely and peacefully across Mumbai.
