Gandhinagar Gets Rs 708 Cr Boost for Urban Growth

Gandhinagar, Gujarat’s capital, has initiated a comprehensive infrastructure development programme valued at over ₹708 crore.

This initiative encompasses a range of projects aimed at enhancing urban infrastructure, healthcare, sanitation, and environmental sustainability. The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) has spearheaded this effort by inaugurating civic and infrastructure projects worth ₹200.94 crore. Additionally, foundation stones have been laid for new works amounting to ₹352.76 crore. The Gandhinagar District Administration has executed projects valued at ₹45.70 crore, while the Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority (GUDA) has contributed with initiatives worth ₹107.85 crore .

Key projects include the construction of RCC and CC roads in Basan, Palaj, and Por, with an investment of ₹8.91 crore. Primary Health Centres have been established at Vavol and Pethapur, costing ₹5.43 crore, to improve healthcare accessibility. Landscaping efforts along the CH-0 to GH-0 municipal corridor have been completed at a cost of ₹4.68 crore, enhancing the city’s aesthetic appeal. Further developments encompass the installation of sewerage and drainage pipelines in localities such as Borij and Kolavada. Town planning area development works have been initiated, amounting to ₹75.08 crore. A sewage treatment plant is being established at Bhat for ₹30.97 crore, aiming to improve wastewater management. Additionally, a road underpass between Sectors 21 and 22 is under construction, with an investment of ₹16.45 crore, to alleviate traffic congestion .

The city’s commitment to sustainable energy is evident through the installation of solar panels and streetlights, costing ₹5.17 crore. Healthcare services are being bolstered with the provision of ambulance services and laboratory upgrades, amounting to ₹11.19 crore. Foundation stone ceremonies have been conducted for roadworks in Khoraj, Koba, Randheja, and Sargasan, totaling ₹26.57 crore. New Primary Health Centres are planned for Sectors 7, 21, 22, and Dholakuva, with a budget of ₹10 crore. Water and drainage line projects in Nabhoi and Vavol are set to cost ₹50.23 crore. Three new sewage treatment plants are planned for Kolavada, Raysan, and Nabhoi, with an investment of ₹35.68 crore

Additional infrastructure projects include the construction of two new zonal offices, renovations of anganwadis, public toilets across the city, community halls in Kudasan and Amiyapur, Gujarat Darshan Park in Indroda, recharge wells and tube wells, a new electric bus depot in TP-09, and cricket box setups and compound walls in multiple sectors. GUDA has also undertaken inaugurations and ground-breaking ceremonies for drainage and sewage treatment facilities in Sardhav, Piplaj, Uvarsad, Shertha, Pundarasan, Shahpur, Lekawada, and Alampur, at a combined cost of ₹8.02 crore.

These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance the quality of life for Gandhinagar’s residents, promote sustainable urban development, and ensure equitable access to essential services. The projects align with the city’s vision of becoming an eco-friendly and inclusive urban centre.
