A major fire broke out at Grew Solar’s power plant in Dudu, about 60km from Jaipur, on Friday evening, prompting a large-scale firefighting operation involving fire tenders from Jaipur district, Ajmer, Kishangarh and nearby towns. No injuries were reported, but the blaze continued to spread across the facility late into the night and its cause remained unknown.
The fire began around 6pm, Dudu Deputy Superintendent of Police Anupam Mishra told The Times of India. Fire tenders were mobilised from Bagru, Phulera and Ajmer, while additional resources were called from Kishangarh as authorities tried to prevent the flames from moving beyond the solar plant.
Jaipur Rural Superintendent of Police Hanuman Prasad Meena confirmed that the facility belonged to Grew Solar and said firefighting teams were working to control the blaze. According to officials quoted in the report, the fire was spreading rapidly across the plant, making containment difficult.
“The only available option at this point in time is to stop the fire from spreading far from the plant, but it will be very difficult to control the fire at the solar plant; it will ravage through it,” an official said.
Firefighters continued spraying water, although an official said the effort was not helping significantly in bringing the blaze under control. Police and district administration officials remained in contact with company representatives during the operation.
The incident also prompted authorities to account for employees at the facility. Police contacted company officials, and all employees were reported to have been accounted for. No injuries were reported in the information available late Friday night.
The extent of damage to the plant was not immediately known. Officials from fire stations in nearby towns and districts were called in as the operation continued, with teams focused on preventing the flames from spreading outside the sprawling facility.
Authorities had not established the cause of the fire by late Friday night. Firefighting operations and coordination between the police, district administration, fire services and Grew Solar officials were continuing.
