DP World Launches Rail-Led Multi-Modal Service Connecting Gujarat to NCR

Dubai-based logistics operator DP World has launched a new rail-led multi-modal service named SARAL-3. This service aims to improve connectivity between Gandhidham in Gujarat and the National Capital Region (NCR), providing a more reliable and sustainable logistics solution for businesses in both regions.

The SARAL-3 service, which operates under the company’s “Sustainable, Assured, Reliable, and Agile Logistics” (SARAL) initiative, is a dedicated container train service starting from Bhimasar, Gandhidham every weekend. With this new service, DP World aims to offer faster and more efficient transportation options for goods moving between Gujarat and NCR. The service promises to reach Pali-Rewari in Haryana within just three days, significantly reducing transportation time compared to traditional logistics methods. In addition, the service provides the option to further extend to Panipat or Modinagar Inland Container Depot (ICD) within six days, further expanding the reach and flexibility for customers.

This level of speed and connectivity is expected to streamline supply chains and open up newer market opportunities for businesses, particularly those in the manufacturing, logistics, and retail sectors. Adhendru Jain, Vice President of DP World Subcontinent Rail and Inland Terminals, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainability and future-ready infrastructure during the service’s launch. “By integrating sustainability into every step of our operations and investing in future-ready infrastructure, we are empowering businesses to access newer markets in a rapidly evolving trade environment,” Jain said.

This new rail service comes at a time when India is looking to improve its logistics infrastructure to support its growing economy. With more than 100 container rakes and Special Freight Train Operator (SFTO) rakes, along with over 16,000 containers and trailers for last-mile delivery, DP World’s infrastructure is well-equipped to handle the demands of businesses looking for efficient and cost-effective transport solutions. In December 2024, DP World also commissioned a third rail line at its Pali-Rewari terminal in Haryana, enhancing its freight handling capacity by 25%. This investment in infrastructure is a clear reflection of the company’s strategy to scale up its operations and support the increasing demand for reliable freight transport services in India.

The SARAL-3 service is expected to bring several benefits to businesses, not just in terms of speed, but also in terms of sustainability. DP World has committed to reducing CO2 emissions by up to 70% with this enhanced rail solution, aligning with its broader sustainability goals. This is a crucial development as the logistics industry continues to grapple with the environmental impact of traditional transport methods, and DP World’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint could set a benchmark for other logistics providers. By focusing on both sustainability and operational efficiency, DP World is helping businesses in Gujarat and NCR expand their reach while reducing the environmental impact of their supply chains. This new service also underscores the company’s ongoing efforts to innovate and improve the logistics landscape in India. Overall, the launch of SARAL-3 marks a significant step forward in improving India’s rail-based logistics services, offering faster, more sustainable, and reliable transport options for businesses across the country. With plans to expand its infrastructure further, DP World is positioning itself as a key player in India’s logistics revolution, helping the country keep pace with global trade trends while meeting its sustainability targets.
