Boost to employment opportunities in Dharavi, the first-ever large-scale job fair in the area saw an enthusiastic turnout and resulted in 150 applicants receiving job offers.
Organised on August 11 by the Dharavi Redevelopment Project Private Limited (DRPPL)—a joint initiative between the Government of Maharashtra and the Adani Group—along with Sapio Analytics, the event successfully connected thousands of job seekers with potential employers.
The job fair attracted a total of 4,000 registrations, with 1,800 aspirants attending the interviews. Out of these, 150 were able to secure job offers on the spot, while an additional 350 candidates were shortlisted for final evaluation by the participating companies. The offered salaries ranged from INR 10,000 to INR 25,000 per month, with a few candidates receiving packages as high as INR 40,000 per month, providing much-needed financial stability for their families.
Fifty-seven companies participated in the event, showcasing the growing interest of the corporate sector in tapping into the potential workforce of Dharavi. Major players such as Bharti Airtel Limited, Tata AIA Life Insurance Company Limited, TeamLease Services Limited, EbixCash Global Services, and SecureDebt Management Consultant Private Limited were among the employers keen to hire local talent.
The DRPPL spokesperson highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it was the first time that financial sector giants such as LIC, Tata AIA, and ICICI Lombard had participated in such an initiative in Dharavi. The spokesperson underscored the importance of bringing job opportunities directly to the people who need them the most, especially in areas like Dharavi, which holds immense untapped potential. A notable aspect of the job fair was the diversity of roles offered, ranging from telecalling positions at companies like Reliance Jio to opportunities in the financial and insurance sectors.
One of the successful candidates expressed their excitement, stating, “Securing this job as a telecaller at Reliance Jio is a significant step towards financial independence for me. I am thrilled to begin this new chapter in my life.” The positive response from both the job seekers and the employers has encouraged DRPPL to consider organising more such initiatives in the future. The organisation plans to focus on providing not only employment opportunities but also skill development programmes to further enhance the employability of Dharavi’s residents.
