Dharani Land Records Face Fresh Probe Demand Over Telangana Land Figures

Telangana BJP Legislative Party leader Aleti Maheshwar Reddy has demanded the release of a forensic audit into the Dharani land records portal and a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into alleged irregularities involving land records, Section 22-A prohibited properties and government land encroachments.

Reddy made the demand while presenting a PowerPoint on Section 22-A land in the presence of state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, party MLAs and senior leaders. He said the party had examined around 200 case studies concerning the Dharani and Bhu Bharati land record portals and alleged that the matter represented one of the biggest land scams in Telangana’s history.

The allegations have not been established through an announced investigation or a publicly released audit in the material reported by Deccan Chronicle. Reddy said the BJP had previously sought a forensic audit of the Dharani portal and claimed that the revenue minister had acknowledged that serious facts had emerged from the audit. He questioned why the report had not been made public and why a Special Investigation Team had been replaced.

Reddy also questioned the Congress government’s earlier allegations that large sums had been misappropriated through Dharani. He asked why, after the government came to power, no land had been restored and no case had been registered, according to the report.

A major part of the BJP’s presentation concerned the Section 22-A prohibited list, which restricts transactions involving specified categories of land. Reddy alleged that private properties, including buildings and layouts with valid permissions, were being wrongly placed on the list. He said affected landowners were being forced to visit Sub-Registrar Office and Mandal Revenue Office officials for months to seek removals, while middlemen were allegedly using the administrative confusion to demand commissions.

Reddy cited government figures showing that the Section 22-A list covered 9,856,838 acres on December 7, 2023, compared with 9,831,320 acres on August 31, 2026. He said the reduction of 25,518 acres required an explanation. The figures, as cited in the report, place the prohibited-list dispute within a larger question about how land classifications are created, reviewed and corrected across Telangana’s digital and revenue administration systems.

He also sought clarity over differences in figures for forest, endowment, Waqf and assigned land. Reddy referred to a gap between 6,633,313 acres of forest land mentioned earlier and 4,253,532 acres disclosed by the revenue minister in the Assembly. He demanded clarification on 512,792 acres of endowment and Waqf land cited by the minister, alongside media reports referring to 179,000 acres of Waqf land. He also sought transparent disclosure of figures relating to 2,463,940 acres of assigned land.

The BJP leader demanded that the forensic audit report be made public and that the CBI investigate alleged changes to land records, suspicious transfers and encroachments. He said the party would continue its campaign until the facts were established and action was taken against those responsible.
