Delhi Voter Roll: Most Form 6 Applications Set for Clearance

Most of the nearly five lakh Form 6 applications seeking inclusion in Delhi’s electoral rolls are expected to be cleared before the final roll is published, according to poll officials, as the October 30 deadline for filing claims approaches without a formal extension announcement.

Delhi received 2,75,856 Form 6 applications between August 31 and October 28, in addition to 2,12,400 applications submitted up to August 30, according to the daily report released by the office of the Delhi Chief Electoral Officer. Form 6 is used by eligible citizens seeking inclusion in the electoral rolls.

The applications followed the publication of the draft electoral roll for all 70 Assembly constituencies on August 31. The draft roll excluded 47.56 lakh electors, prompting a claims and objections process through which residents could seek inclusion, deletion or correction of electoral entries.

“The majority of the Form 6 applications that have been filed will be cleared, and the names will be added to the final electoral roll,” an official said. The official added that names removed from the draft roll were mainly those of voters who were enrolled in another state.

West Delhi recorded the highest number of Form 6 applications at 33,915. It was followed by north-west Delhi with 27,664 applications, east Delhi with 26,563, south-east Delhi with 26,535 and north-east Delhi with 26,324 applications.

The figures show the scale of the administrative exercise underway across Delhi’s electoral constituencies. The process requires election authorities to examine applications for inclusion alongside objections and requests to modify or delete existing entries.

Delhi also received 21,603 Form 7 applications and 1,03,352 Form 8 applications between August 31 and October 28, the daily report showed. Form 7 is used to seek deletion of a name from the electoral roll, while Form 8 is used for corrections or modifications to an existing entry.

The Election Commission’s position on extending the October 30 filing deadline remained formally unclear in the report. The Supreme Court had asked the poll panel to consider an extension, and the commission had orally assured the court that it would do so, but no formal announcement had been issued at the time of the officials’ comments.

The final electoral roll is expected to include the applications cleared through the claims and objections process. The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer’s office will continue processing the applications and related objections before the final roll is issued.
