Delhi Traffic Diversions Begin for Run for Unity; Key Roads Affected

Delhi traffic diversions will be in force across parts of New Delhi from 3:30 am to around 9 am on October 31 as participants gather for the Run for Unity organised on National Unity Day. The Delhi Traffic Police has advised motorists to avoid affected roads, follow instructions from traffic personnel and allow extra time for travel.

The run will begin at Gate 1 of Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. Participants will move towards C-Hexagon, turn right from the radial road opposite Shahjahan Road and finish near the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Traffic approaching C-Hexagon will be regulated or diverted as required during the event. The restrictions are expected to affect several important junctions and road corridors in central New Delhi, including Bhagwan Das Road, the Purana Qila Road–Mathura Road junction, the Sher Shah Road–Mathura Road junction, and the Dr Zakir Hussain Marg–Subramania Bharati Marg intersection.

Traffic changes will also be implemented, depending on the situation, at the Pandara Road–Subramania Bharati Marg crossing, Q-Point, the roundabouts at Man Singh Road and Jaswant Singh Road, the Firoz Shah Road–K G Marg crossing, and the Mandi House–Copernicus Marg roundabout.

The traffic police said cross traffic may be allowed depending on prevailing road conditions and the number of participants. This means movement through some points could be regulated on a real-time basis rather than being uniformly stopped throughout the advisory period.

The affected roads connect central government, cultural, institutional and high-traffic areas of New Delhi, making the timing of the diversion significant for early-morning commuters, residents and motorists travelling towards central Delhi. Drivers using these corridors have been asked to choose alternative routes and comply with instructions issued at the site.

The advisory also asks motorists not to park vehicles without authorisation in the affected areas. Commuters have been advised to plan journeys in advance and keep additional travel time because restrictions may change according to the movement of participants and on-ground traffic conditions.

Emergency vehicles will be allowed to pass through the affected network. The traffic police has asked road users to cooperate with personnel deployed along the route and to avoid entering restricted stretches unless directed to do so. The diversions will remain applicable until about 9 am, subject to traffic conditions and the completion of the event.
